Today I worked with my sound recordist and
editor Dan to record foley for the film. The foley was all recorded in the
Harmer Pro tools room and involved mostly Dan recording me ruffling newspaper,
ruffling a bag, jumping, stepping on the spot, banging into things and trying
make a squeak noise for the slide. Over all I am very happy with the foley
recorded and will work closely with dan on the edit to make the audio sound as
good as possible.

Fine cut screening
We did not show our film at the fine cut
screening, as due to technical issues Jess had not been able to make any
significant changes. These issues have been dealt with and after showing Chris
Hall what we had he agreed no screening was necessary.

Rough cut screening
The rough-cut screening went excellently.
Most of the feedback was very positive, including praise for the writing,
Courtneys acting and my directing specifically. There were some complaints
about jess’s acting as expecting but it was acknowledged little could be done
at this point. Other issues that were raised were that colour correction would
be needed on certain scenes and that some trimming was needed for timing
purposes.

Edit
I have been working closely with Jess on
the edit of the film. I am very happy with jess’s progress and aside from a few
small suggestions I have asked for little to be changed.
The scenes with Georgia are my biggest
problem due to the acting but there is little that can be done at this late
stage of production.

Filming day 2
The 2nd day of filming started
badly, as I organized the cast and crew for the days shoot, Robin the
cinematographer was late on set, after several attempts to phone him he
eventually responded to tell me he was still in bed. I then immediately drove
from Stradbroke to Walkley to pick him and his equipment up.
Once we returned to set we were an hour
behind an already busy schedule. We began by filming Hugh’s scenes with
Courtney. I quickly got everyone ready and instructed the cast and crew of how
the scene was to go. After the scene was shot I thanked and paid Hugh for his
time and went on to the park scene with Courtney and Jess. Followed by the lone
street scenes with Courtney.
During the day as well as directing actors
I made sure that the cast and crew were fed and kept warm (on the coldest day
of the year so far) and checked with Dan and Robin to check on the sound and
visuals respectively. Over all the day was long and tiring but was much more
successful that I expected.
