Courtney V.O

Today Dan and myself recorded all of Nathans lines with our actor Courtney. We recorded Courtney in the Harmer Pro Tools room at Sheffield Hallam University; the equipment Dan used was a Mirantz661 and a Senhieser microphone.

Dan recorded and listened to all the sound to make sure it was a clean take whilst I directed Courtney on how I felt he should say each line.  In order to have several options to work with I would have 2 clean takes of Courtney saying each line before asking him to say it again in a different way, for example when Nathan thinks “And a platinum slide!” I had Courtney say is like he suddenly thought of it in a childish way and then I had him say it like he was bragging as if he already had the slide, (we chose to use the bragging take in the final edit.)

I was also sure to get Courtney and his family who came with him bottled water, as it was to be a long session with lots of talking in a variety of different ways. I would every so often ask Courtney if he was thirsty as a gentle encouragement to keep drinking so Courtney would remain comfortable. We also took a break halfway through the afternoon where I bought a requested snack for Courtney and all his family.

Over all I am very happy with Coutney’s performance, despite his age he was able to deliver his lines excellently and in multiple ways. I am very happy with his casting.
